On November 26, the 幼女视频 hosted another session of its International and Comparative Politics Public Lecture Series at the CH Maker Space, featuring Kojiro Nakai, the WFP Representative and Country Director in the Kyrgyz Republic. His talk, titled 鈥淏uilding a UN Career with the World Food Programme: Driving Local Impact, Shaping Global Change,鈥 provided students with an inspiring look into the professional pathways within the UN system-while also highlighting the pressing challenges of food security in the Kyrgyz Republic and beyond.

Kojiro Nakai began by sharing his personal story of joining the World Food Programme (WFP), the world鈥檚 largest humanitarian organization focused on hunger and emergency assistance. His career has taken him through some of the world鈥檚 most complex and fragile contexts, including Sudan, Myanmar, and Afghanistan.

Through these experiences, he emphasized the realities of fieldwork, the ethical responsibilities of humanitarian operations, and the profound impact UN agencies can have when working closely with communities affected by conflict, climate shocks, and food insecurity.

Mr. Nakai shared his professional journey, reflecting on years of humanitarian experience in Sudan, Myanmar, and Afghanistan, and the realities of working in complex emergency settings.

He also presented an overview of food security in the Kyrgyz Republic, where challenges remain acute:

  • 10% inflation (highest in Central Asia as of Aug 2025)

  • 26% of the population living in poverty

  • 60% of households food insecure

  • 150% increase in climate-related disasters over 12 years

  • 51% of children under two lacking a minimum acceptable diet

WFP works closely with the Kyrgyz Government and key ministries to align its programmes with national priorities, including the National Development Strategy 2040, National Development Programme 2030, and sectoral strategies in food security, nutrition, climate, and education.

Its efforts center on three strategic objectives:

  1. Enhancing income and job opportunities

  2. Strengthening emergency preparedness and response

  3. Promoting climate resilience and innovation

Mr. Nakai concluded by outlining UN career pathways-vacancy announcements, YPP, and the JPO Programme-encouraging students to explore roles in both development and emergency operations.

The lecture offered a concise, insightful look into humanitarian careers and the urgent food security issues shaping the region today.
